About Our Long-Term Response Plan
For the past 5 years, Haitian families have endured extreme political and civil unrest, food, water, and economic insecurity, in addition to COVID-19, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake, and now acute unrest caused by a recent wave of insecurity and government collapse. Gang violence, fuel shortages, and political instability are at the center of the country-wide unrest, and there is no certain timeline for a resolution. Education for school children has been delayed and disrupted, and most businesses, including hospitals, banks, and other government offices, have been forced to shut down or modify their hours. Today, there is a severe scarcity of fuel, food, clean drinking water, and other basic human needs throughout Haiti, and the insecurity and violence are causing mass migration to southern Haiti putting greater stress on schools, hospitals, and social safety nets.
Hope for Haiti is uniquely qualified and positioned with more than 150 full-time staff on the ground in southern Haiti to implement short- and long-term humanitarian and development programs in collaboration with local Haitian government agencies, civil society organizations, and grassroots leaders.
